Avalokitesvara is frequently portrayed in white, but also can be red. He is a Bodhisattva and helps people when they are in distress. Although he is most frequently seen with two or four arms, but in this thangka he has 1,000 arms. The 1,000 arms represent the appearance of 1,000 Buddhas, whose compassion will guide us on our journey to awakening. This thangka is made from silk and brocade. This painting is 20 x 15 inches and the brocade portion is 30 x 33 inches. This thangka was made in Nepal.
