Tibetan prayer wheels (called Mani wheels by the Tibetans) are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being. They are normally carved with many copies of the mantra (prayer) "Om Mani Padme Hum", printed in an ancient Indian script or in Tibetan script. They are wound around a stick inside of the prayer wheel. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying this mantra, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. This prayer wheel is made from southern elm wood. It is 100% handmade and was painted in Nepal. There are numerous mantra prayers, Tibetan Buddhist signs, and lion's heads carved around the wheel. The size of the prayer wheel is 22 (H) x 14 (W) x 8.5 (D) inches around.
